Tenom : Proposed Site For Sabah Cultural Village

Entry to the Sarawak Cultural Village

Like in Sarawak, SCV (Sarawak Cultural Village) is a boost to the state tourism. If you came to Sarawak and not visiting the SCV, you miss all the fun traveling to Kuching. But if you travel to Kuching for business propose, well.. its another story. Sabah in the other hand have just started proposing where they should locate the site for 'Sabah Cultural Village'.

Read on the news posted in The Daily Express on the 20th of June 09. Just want to clear things up, Tenom don't have a 5 Stars Hotel or it haven't built yet. :)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tenom: Tenom Umno Youth has welcomed Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's proposal to build a cultural village in Sabah, saying it should be in Tenom if State Tourism and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun is not interested.

"In my capacity as Tenom Umno Youth leader, we request that the cultural village be built in the interior in Tenom.

"There's no problem with regards to site because the road network is sufficientÉthere is also a five-star hotel," he said Special Officer to Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Jamawi Jaafar.

He was officiating at a combined meeting of three Umno branches at Kampung Jawa Sumbiling balairaya.

The construction of a cultural village here, he said, is timely so as to enhance the cultures in Sabah as well as to increase the number of tourists.

Masidi, who is also Sabah Umno Assistant Secretary, said a cultural village was difficult to maintain, going by the Sarawak example. Instead he said the Cultural Village set up in the State Museum grounds could be improved.

However, Jamawi said the cultural village built several years ago in Sarawak had made a good impact on that State's tourism.

He said Tenom is a suitable site for the cultural village because there are several attractions such as Taman Lagud Sebrang, Murut Cultural Centre and recreation centres such as Pangi White Water Rafting and Ulu Kalang Waterfall.

He said the Government's moves to enhance tourism and manufacturing in economically slow moving areas such as in the interior is a correct move.

Jamawi said the only way to salvage the district's economy is to attract more tourists.

Should the cultural village is built in Tenom, he said it would inculcate greater preservation and conservation of cultures there.

The Clash of Pork and Wild Boar In Tenom

Tenom: The District Council has decided built a permanent barrier between the sellers of pork and wild boar meat at the market here, fearing that not to do so might lead to heightened tension between them.

Trouble has been brewing between traders of both meats ever since the Council forbade the wild boar meat sellers from operating at the former makeshift site and ordered them to relocate at a section of the pork market.

However, the pork sellers did not favour the move because wild boar meat proved more popular among the buyers.

Annam Yah, 32, a wild boar meat seller, thanked the Council for the measure and hoped it would also consider putting up fans inside the premise.

Meanwhile, the Council's Executive Officer Wilfred Gantiu assured it would repair all non-functioning streetlights and several other infrastructures as soon as it received the allocation for maintenance. "We will settle the problem but please be patient because it will take time as there are government procedures to be complied with," he said.

He was responding to complaints from shop operators that no action had been taken despite the matters having been raised several times previously.

Superman Drowned!

Superman failed swimming test! based on the report by the Daily Express

Tenom: An Indonesian's impatience cost him his life when he swam across the Pegalan River instead of waiting for the boat to be reunited with his family, about nine km from here, last Sunday.

The 25-year-old man, identified as Superman@Super, who worked at a plantation in Kg Ansip, Keningau, had gone to the river at about 1.30pm, an eyewitness said.
Sukardi Sipon said the man, who was from Pari Pari in Sulawesi, Indonesia, could not wait for the boat and hastened into the river, near to the Lagud quarry, despite the strong current at the time.

"The man was just about 20m from the riverbank on the other side when he suddenly vanished," said the quarry worker adding that no one was able to do anything to save him.
It was believed the man was swept away by the current.
The body was found floating about 200m downstream by the Fire and Rescue Department at about 12.30pm on Tuesday. District Police Chief, DSP Mazlan Haji Lazim said police have ruled out foul play.

A Quest Within : Part 2

continue .....from A Quest Within: part 1.

How old are you? Who are you? How close is u with the elders? How close is u with ur culture. Can u speak ur mother tongue language? If not then u have increase the extinction rate of ur own mother tongue.

Thru the data statistic claimed by UNESCO shows that 10 Mother-tongue langue disappear each year. And according to The Entnologue, the database of all the languages spoken in the world claim that 417 languages are spoken by so few people that they are in the final stages of becoming extinct.

So what do you think about it? How will you react?

As we know Murut population figure is between “50K-100K”. And how many ppl can speak out the language? The actual percentage is not yet known but the figure could be lesser year by year. And how long it could survive? Well it might be 50 years from now and during that time the languages is just an old language that could be spoken by less that 5 percent of the Murut population.

If we have a look on the current situation and condition, the language is not widely spoken at home. Too much reason can be given, and all the reason has it’s logically interpretation by many.

I don’t speak language myself very well but it is not wrong for me to write something about it.

To be continue….
